Casual Collectors, UNITE!

Mega Evolutions is officially out, Inferno X singles prices are out, and we’re already getting previews of the Phantasmal Flames UPC. The hobby is wild right now, so let’s focus on what’s most important: how to spend our money wisely over the next few months. Let’s rip into this one!

🗞️ ICYMI

who’s that pokemon? it’s the inferno x charizard cards

charizard go rawr

Inferno X, the Japanese equivalent of our Phantasmal Flames, was released the same weekend as Mega Evolution, and with sales starting to trickle in, it's no surprise that the Mega Charizard X Special Art Rare and gold Mega Ultra Rare top the list of the set's most expensive cards.

The SAR is sitting pretty at around $590 as of this week, with the gold MUR card at a whopping $770. .

I fully expect the SAR to come down in price over time, but the gold card may not see as significant a price dip, given how difficult it is to pull these MURs.

mega evolutions pull rates are here and that gold card is impossible to pull

1/1260 chance of pulling a gold card?!?

As per usual, TCGPlayer conducted a review of several thousand packs opened from the new English Pokemon set, Mega Evolution, to determine the pull rates of the various rarities within the set.

No real surprises here—the gold Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir cards have only a small chance of being pulled from a random pack. However, it looks like illustration rares are quite common, which is a great sign given all the outstanding illustration rare artworks that this set has to offer (especially that new Marshadow illustration rare card…).

The Q4 2025 Pokemon TCG Buying Guide

It's a seller's market in the Pokemon TCG collecting hobby right now, and whether you're a long-time collector or just getting your collection started this month, making smart money moves is key to enjoying this hobby to its fullest.

Aside from almost anything that restocks on PokemonCenter.com, it's hard to discern what you should buy and what you should avoid. In addition, with Pokemon TCG PSA graded cards skyrocketing in price as the entire collectible card market continues to soar, it's difficult to decide what to buy for future gains.

Whether you run into a random Target restock or are browsing a card show for PSA 10s to buy, here's a short list of sealed products and PSA graded cards to look out for and scoop!

Mega Evolution: Booster Bundle

so mega

Booster Bundles have long been the least expensive and most dollar-efficient way to open packs. Retailing for $26.94, booster bundles should be the first thing you grab when you see a restock. With the introduction of the Mega Hyper Rare gold cards, Mega Evolution will become a fan favorite down the road, with the booster bundles being some of the easiest products to store (due to their size) and the most cost-efficient way to profit over time.

If you're buying these from a Facebook Marketplace seller, I would wait a few more weeks and keep your eye out for a big box retailer to restock them. Wander into a Target during your lunch break and try to catch a restock if you can.

However you buy them, hold or rip them—you can't go wrong doing either.

Prismatic Evolutions: Elite Trainer Box

it’s a box with eevee on the front.

Prismatic Evolutions. The set that started this current market bull run. The one that put scalpers onto Pokemon TCG. The Eevee set that is nearly impossible to pull an Eeveelution card from.

Prismatic Evolutions will go down as one of the most popular sets of all time (with 151 as the definitive most popular set of all time), so it's inevitable that a Prismatic Evolutions product shows up on this list.

These boxes seemingly restock all the time, and although this set also has Booster Bundles, since Prismatic Evolutions doesn't have a 36-pack booster box in the product lineup, and the Super Premium Collection is nearly impossible to get, this is my recommendation.

The discrepancy between eBay and TCGPlayer pricing tells of a market that knows these boxes will come aplenty in the near future, and sellers are capitalizing on the current demand while they can.

Buy a box or two from your local Facebook Marketplace seller and stash them away. It's not worth opening, so save yourself the pain and watch the boxes gain value in 2-3 years.

Surging Sparks: Booster Box

alolan exeggutor derpy as ever

Surging Sparks came on the heels of Prismatic Evolutions and was truly the first scalped Pokemon TCG set. With the Pikachu SIR competing for chase of the era, the set has some other banger SIRs and IRs, including this majestic Milotic SIR and an amazing Slakoth IR.

But the key thing to note is this: Pokemon can't reprint everything. They have to pick sets and products, and the print runs will be limited because they have to print new sets too.

Booster boxes have seen very few restocks in the current era. They give you the most packs in one product purchase.

There are plenty of other sealed products to be on the hunt for—mainly booster bundles for any set and Elite Trainer Boxes for Twilight Masquerade, and anything Paldea Evolved—but those three are the top three I'm looking at for long-term holds.

Let's get into some PSA graded cards now…

Scarlet and Violet 151: PSA 10s

GOATed

Scarlet and Violet 151 is the set that brought me back into collecting Pokemon. As a set dedicated to the first generation of Pokemon, a mass horde of millennials with disposable income began throwing money at any and all Pokemon 151 products.

Admittedly, I opened a ton of 151 products, including a Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box that I bought for $90 (which was high at the time!), and have a master set tucked away in one of my storage containers as well. But this means I opened so much product that I was able to pull many of the best cards from the set, gem minting numerous top hits.

This is your sign: get in while the prices are low and most of the best cards from SV:151 are still affordable. My favorites are the Venusaur and Zapdos SIRs, but you really can't go wrong buying any of the SIRs and IRs in a PSA 10 right now.

Black Bolt: Zekrom SIR PSA 10

zappity zap zap

Black Bolt and White Flare had such a short moment in the hobby. The BWR rarities and their monochromatic look definitely rule the sets, given how difficult they are to pull. With the sheer number of illustration rares in the set (every Unova Pokemon received an illustration rare or a special illustration rare), it's a set that is quite difficult to keep tabs on and track.

But man, the Zekrom SIR is such a stud of a card in a set with higher rarity bangers. The pose, the colors, and the pops from the lightning really make it a standout card. The price is slowly coming down on the card too, meaning it could be had at a reasonable price before the year is out. It's not impossible to pull an SIR out of Black Bolt or White Flare, but to pull this particular one, you could end up opening well over 1,000 packs before you see the shimmer of the border that is the Zekrom SIR.

Snag it while you can—it's bound to be a top chase of the era down the line.

Gem Pack 2: Eeveelution PSA 10s

any art with eevees and foliage are chef’s kiss

The Pokémon TCG in China is playing catch-up as The Pokémon Company releases set after set with previously released artworks. But each set has exclusive artworks released just in Simplified Chinese to give fans something a little extra to look forward to as they rip open packs.

The Gem Pack 2 contained four unique illustration rare cards of Eevee and three of its evolutions: Umbreon, Sylveon, and Leafeon. These four cards are the main chases of the set, with the Umbreon garnering the highest value on the secondary market.

gem pack 2 umbreon: $635 current price

gem pack 2 sylveon: $230 current price

gem pack 2 leafeon: $290 current price

gem pack 2 eevee: $255 current price

The prices of these cards in a PSA 10 have steadily trended downward since the initial release, and there are plenty of eBay sellers looking to offload them for a good price. Hunt and snag the ones you like and just enjoy the artworks, at the very least.

So these are the products that I'm looking for and keeping an eye on this quarter. Let me know if there are any products or PSA 10s that you're eyeing and hoping to buy before the end of the year!

👀 “Should I buy it or not” Card of the week

meep

The artist USGMEN is the same one who did the famed Bubble Mew art, and this one is going absolutely bananas.

As cute as the art is, Solosis is not the fan favorite Mew is, and it feels like there are people who are simply pumping this card’s value.

As tempting as it may be, don’t be fooled by the hype: DO NOT BUY this card right now.

🕶️ Singles to watch

Here are three other singles that I’m keeping a close eye on:

I love goooooold

Definitely one to watch over the next few weeks, and scoop a copy in a PSA10 ahead of next year’s 30th anniversary.

it’s not upside, you’re upside down..

Art. This isn’t the most popular legendary pokemon, but my goodness the artist matazo went crazy with this one. the Northern Lights-like explosion of color that low-key matches the colors of Cresselia… Such a great value for a beautiful card

om nom nom

I personally think this card is better than the Umbreon VMAX, and since seeing it in person this past week, I’m convinced I’ll need this card before it’s unobtainable even in raw form.

❓ Question of the week

Have you bought any Pokemon cards or products lately? If so, what was it?

The “Grimer Looking Up a Skirt” Card 👀
In the Japanese Team Rocket set, Grimer was illustrated peeking up a girl’s skirt. The art was later edited in English and reprints to make Grimer’s eyes look forward instead. The original remains a bizarre piece of TCG history.

Catch deals. Pull grails.
